In 1880 Samuel Linn (age 45) and his wife Elizabeth (age 38) are living in Union, Marion, West Virginia with their children: Martha (age 18), Margaret (age 17), Polly (age 13), Henry S. (age 10), Sarah A (age 8), Peninah Linn (age 5, misspelled Penina), Nancy (age 3), and Hiram R. (age 1). Peninah, Nancy, and Hiram were born in West Virginia. All the others were born in Virginia. Samuel is a farmer. Elizabeth is keeping house. Polly and Henry are in school. Elizabeth and Henry can't write. [4]

1 JOHN L. LINN, son of Samuel and Betsy (Rudy) Linn, was born June 28, 1850 and died June 16, 1851.
2 MARTHA JANE LINN, daughter of Samuel and Betsy (Rudy) Linn, was born Dec. 22, 1851. She married Samuel W. Linn (known as Red Sam), son of William Linn (See Family of Samuel W. Linn).
3 MARGARET LINN, daughter of Samuel and Betsy (Rudy) Linn, was born Sept. 13, 1853. She married Sanford W. Linn, son of Hugh and Lucinda (Johnson) Linn. (See family of Hugh Linn.) They were married Jan. 13, 1876 and resided in the Wickwire district where he was a prosperous farmer until about one year before his death which occurred at his home in West Knotts Ave., Grafton, on April 3, 1929. He was born in 1856. The children of Sanford and Margarett Linn are: 1 Nathaniel, 2 James, 3 Elza, who all live in Pittsburgh, Pa.; 4 William Anthony, who lives at Parkersburg, W. Va.; 5 Lester, 6 Charles and 7 Rhoda of Grafton; 8 Mrs. Carter Henderson of Fairmont; 9 Mrs. Sarah Elizabeth Mahaffey, and 10 Mrs. Murray Henderson, both of Grafton, and 1l John Lee Linn who died in 1906.
4 PENINAH LINN, daughter of Samuel and Betsy (Rudy) Linn, was born May 22, 1865. She married Robert H. Linn, son of Hugh and Lucinda (Johnson) Linn, Mar. 28, 1888. Their children are: 1 Margarett Elizabeth, 2 Ellen, deceased, 3 William Henry, 4 Martin, 5 Mary Etta, 6 Martha Olive, 7 George Lee, 8 Rosella., 9 Della Virginia, 10 Robert Thomas, and 11 Samuel Na than.
5 CYRUS L INN, son of Samuel and Betsy (Rudy) Linn, was born Feb. 26, 1856, died Mar. 16, 1856.
6 POLLY LINN, daughter of Samuel and Betsy (Rudy) Linn, was born Mar. 7, 1857. She is unmarried and lives with her brother Hiram at the old homestead.
7 INFANT girl was born and died Sept. 4, 1858.
8 HENRY L. LINN, son of Samuel and Betsy (Rudy) Linn was born Feb. 1, 1860, and died May 11, 1892. He was not married.
9 SARAH A. L INN, daughter of Samuel and Betsy (Rudy) Linn was born Dec. 3, 1861. She is unmarried and lives with her brother Hiram.
10 NANCY LINN, daughter of Samuel and Betsy (Rudy) Linn, was born far. 14, 1867. She married William W. Lake, son of Nimrod Lake and Sallie. (Linn) Lake, a daughter of Gibson and Tabitha (Reese) Linn. (Rev. W. J. Eddy, Fairmont). Their children are: 1 Rufus, 2 Alma Lulu, and 3 F1orence Virginia.
11 HIRAM R. L INN, son of Samuel and Betsy (Rudy) Linn, was born Feb. 24, 1869. He is unmarried and lives with his three sisters, Polly, Sarah and Harriett, at the old homestead. Hiram R. Linn is a prominent citizen of his community and a prosperous farmer and business man. He is vice president of the Taylor County Bank, of Grafton, and historian for the Linn Family Association. He is a man of unquestioned integrity and honor, and his intelligence and good judgment in business affairs make his advice and counsel greatly appreciated by his neighbors. Hiram R. Linn is an outstanding man in his community and a worthy representative of the progenitors of the Linn family in America.
12 HARRIET E. LINN, daughter of Samuel and Betsy (Rudy) Linn, was born Dec. 18, 1870. She is. unmarried and lives with her brother Hiram.
Samuel Linn passed away on Oct. 27, 1912 and is buried in John Linn Cemetery on the home farm in Palatine, Marion, West Virginia. [5]
