His father Henry passed away in Feb. 1885 in Iowa. In 1885 Ira was 12 yrs. old, living with his mother and seven siblings in Jackson.[2]
In July 1899 in Madison, Iowa, United States, Ira married Blanche L. Buchanan.[3] In 1900 Ira was 26 yrs. old and was living with his 21 yr. old wife Blanche and daughter Mamie A. Linn in Harrison Township, Adair, Iowa, United States. He worked as a day laborer.[4]
They then moved to Great Falls, Cascade, Montana, United States.[5] In 1910, Ira was 36 yrs. old and was living in Anaconda Ward 4, Deer Lodge, Montana, United States with his wife and four children. He was working as a craneman in the smelter.[6]
In Sep. 1918 Ira registered for the WW I United States Draft. He was described as: 44 yrs. old, born Nov. 15, 1873, medium height, stout, blue eyes and red hair. He worked as a smelterman for ACM Co. and lived on Pine St. in Anaconda, Montana, United States.[7] In 1920 Ira was 46 yrs. old, living in the same place with his family.[8]
