Biography
John was born in Emmitsburg, Maryland. He married Mary Jane Beard, had four children, and moved to Gettysburg in Adams County, Pennsylvania sometime between 1860 and 1862. Five children more were born in Pennsylvania. Shortly after the 1870 census, they returned to Emmitsburg, where three children more were born. John died not long before the 1880 census.
