Early Settler Departs Life. Ferdinand J. Lipke Dies Yesterday Afternoon. Had Lived in Appleton for Upwards of Half a Century--Funeral Will Be Held Thursday. Appleton, Wis., Tuesday, July 3. Ferdinand J. Lipke, one of Appleton's earliest settlers died yesterday afternoon shortly before 2 o'clock, after a comparatively brief illness, dissolution taking place at the home of his daughter, Mrs. Mary Wettlaufer, 526 North street, at the age of 79 years.
Ferdinand Lipke was born at Naubarnim, Germany, November 10, 1826. He came to America in August, 1847, and after spending a brief time in New York came to Wisconsin, settling in Dodge county and after two years he came to Outagamie county and had since made Appleton his home. On Wednesday, November 15, 1852, he was married to Henrietta Koehler, and together they lived in Appleton until death claimed his wife about eight years ago. The wedding ceremony was performed by the Rev. Mr. Monroe, the first pastor of the Appleton Congregational church.
Six children and two brothers survive him as follows: Mrs. Mary Wettlaufer, Appleton; Mrs. Sarah Lewis, Appleton; William Lipke, Scottsville, Kansas; Theodore Lipke, Grand Rapids; Rose Lipke, Green Bay; Mrs. Clara Theby, Green Bay; Henry Lipke, Appleton and August Lipke, Ladd., Ill.
The funeral will be held from the residence of his daughter, Mrs. Wettlaufer, at 2 o'clock next Thursday afternoon. The services will be conducted by the Rev. F. T. Reese of the Congregational church.
