Private John Lipscomb served with 1st Continental Light Dragoons (1776), Continental Army during the American Revolution.

John Lipscomb is a DAR Patriot Ancestor, A069690.

John Lipscomb was born on 31 Oct 1761 in Virginia.[1] He was a son of William Lipscomb Sr. and Virginia Elizabeth (Smith) Lipscomb.[2]

In 1777-78, he served as a Private under Captain Cuthbert Harrison in Colonel Theodorick Bland's 2nd Troop, 1st Regiment of Light Dragoons, Continental Army.[1][3]

On 18 Dec 1783, he married Sarah "Sally" Smith in Louisa County, Virginia.[4][5] Some of the children born to John and Sally Lipscomb were:[1]

  • John, m. Sarah H. Lipscomb
  • Edward, m. Juliet Lancester
  • Nancy S., m. Zachariah Nance
  • Smith, m. Sally ___

By 1800, the Lipscombs had moved to Spartanburg District, South Carolina, where John is listed as a head of household.[6]

John Lipscombe passed away on 27 Oct 1827 in Spartanburg District, South Carolina.[1] He was buried in John Lipscomb Family Cemetery, Goucher, Cherokee County, South Carolina.[7]
