Biography

Lawrence is found on the Militia list for Northborough in 1843 and 1844. His son George was born here in 1844.

wife was Harriet Spaulding.

"Litchfield, Mrs. Harriet S., widow of Lewis L., formerly of Boston, Mass., aged 42 yrs., d.April 7, 1855 (Lawrence, Herald of Freedom, April 7.) Litchfield, Lewis L., formerly of Cambridge, Mass., aged 40 yrs., 7 mos., d. Feb. 11, 1855, of pleurisy. (Lawrence, Herald of Freedom, Feb. 17.)"

Lewis might be the son of Leonard and Patty bap. in 1829 in Leominster, MA. He is NOT the son of Lewis born in Hanover, MA in 1811 since that Lewis is found in the Hanover militia in 1843 and 1844.

In looking at the information on the other children of Leonard and Polly (Patty) it does look as if all the children belong to one couple.

Additional information or corroboration might come from the "Litchfield Family Records" by Phillip Currier and/or the notebooks of Wilford J. Litchfield. Both these resources are in the NEHGS collection. There is also a probate record (Worcester County) 1834 that refers to Lewis L Litchfield (Leonard died in 1833). Unfortunately I have only seen the index and do not have access to the record itself. Any of these records might offer further insights.

p. 213 of "The Spaulding Memorial: A genealogical history of Edward Spaulding of Virginia and Massachusetts Bay, and his descendants" has the following information: Harriet (daughter of Timothy (Abel, Simeon, Joseph, John, Edward and Lydia Moore) was born Jan 24, 1813 and d. April 7, 1856 in Kansas. She married Lewis Litchfield. Harriet's sister, Mary married Thomas Curtis Litchfield.
