Biography

Leroy J. Little, 71, of Clearfield, passed away Aug. 13, 2007, in Canada as the result of a boating accident.

Born Aug. 14, 1936, in Grassflat, he was the son of James and Maude (Rowles) Little.

He was a graduate of Cooper Township High School (West Branch), and after that, played semi-professional football with the Clearfield Hornets. He then graduated from the Hobart Technical Institute in Pittsburgh as a certified welder and then served three years in the United States Coast Guard, stationed in the Great Lakes Region. He joined the International Ornamental and Structural Ironworkers Union Local No. 772 and retired after 48 years of service. During his retirement years, he worked at Penn State University in design and construction services as a structural steel inspector.

He was an active member of Clearfield Lodge No. 540 B.P.O Elks, the Clearfield Veterans of Foreign Wars, the Grassflat L.O.O.M., The Mosquito Creek Sportsman Club of Clearfield, the Chinclacamoose Canoe Club of Clearfield, and the Clearfield Sons of Italy. In his retirement, Leroy enjoyed traveling with his wife throughout the country, and also was an avid sportsman and fisherman, and enjoyed spending time with his grandchildren and friends outdoors.

Surviving is his wife, the former Carole Derin, and four daughters, Laura and Daniel Miller and their sons, Evan and Derin, of State College, Karen and Timothy Potts and her children, Steven and Lauren McDole, of Clearfield, Leah and Bradford Pittman and son Tyler of Pensacola, Fla., and Peggy Little of Reading and her daughter, Mary Ann Righter, who lives with her grandmother in Clearfield.

In addition, he is survived by his brothers, Willard of Niagara Falls, Boyd of Texas, Karl of Michigan, Wayne of Clearfield and Earl of Allport.

He was preceded in death by his parents and his brothers Roger "Jim" and Russell.

His family invites you to a Remembrance Celebration Oct. 5, 2007, from 5-7 p.m. in the Antler Room of the Clearfield Elks Lodge, 301 N. Second St.

A Memorial Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated at St. Francis Roman Catholic Church, 212 S. Front St. on Saturday, Oct. 6 at 10 a.m., with Msgr. H. Desmond McGee Jr. as celebrant. This will be follow by a luncheon hosted by the Clearfield VFW Post No. 1785, 309 N. Third St. in Clearfield.

The Family suggests contributions be made to either the St. Francis Catholic School, 230 S. Second St., Clearfield, PA 16830; or the Clearfield Salvation Army, 119 Byers St., Clearfield, PA 16830.

The Chester C. Chidboy Funeral Home Inc. of Clearfield is in charge of the arrangements.
