Biography

Carol was born in 1947. Carol Little ... She passed away in 2016.[1]

Obituary for Carol Ann Grigsby Carol Ann Grigsby, 69, of Union City passed away peacefully at home on Wednesday, October 5, 2016 following longtime health struggles. Carol has been cremated. Her life will be honored at a private memorial service. The family is being assisted by Lighthouse Funeral & Cremation in Union City.

Carol was born on September 15, 1947 in Coldwater, MI to Harold and Doris (Rarick) Little. She was a lifelong Union City resident. After graduating from Union City High School in 1965, Carol worked for Schafer Manufacturing and the Trailer Factory in Union City. She went on to answer phone for the Branch County Courthouse and to perform clerical work for the probation department. On April 28, 1967, Carol married Howard Grigsby. A year later, she was diagnosed with diabetes, which she valiantly fought for the rest of her life. Her sister-in-law, Geraldine Bole, donated a kidney so Carol could continue the battle.

Together, Carol and Howard raised two daughters, Laura and Annessa “Annie.” Carol was a loving wife, mother, grandmother, and best friend to her daughter, Laura. Carol dedicated her life to caring for Annie, whom she loved more than life. She put her daughter’s care above her own. Annie’s passing in July of 2016 left her completely heartbroken.

Carol was an active gardener. She loved planting flowers and fruit trees, which made the area around her home arbor-like. She and Laura argued over the number of flower bulbs she would buy every year. Laura has been left with about 150 daffodil bulbs the two were set to plant together the day she passed. Inside of her home, Carol was a cooking genius who could make a dish out of thin air. She was truly gifted and talented at crocheting. Carol also enjoyed entering tickets on the Michigan lottery and snuggling under big, soft, warm blankets and cuddling with her dachshund Molly. Carol had a love affair with dangling/sparkly earrings and jewelry. Even when she was in the hospital she would have a pair of them on, or request a new pair be brought to her.

Caregiving and her own health issues made it difficult for Carol to be away from home. But in 2014, her daughter, Laura, and granddaughter, McKensey, took Carol on a road trip to Myrtle Beach, as she had never seen the ocean. They reported watching Carol getting sprayed by salt water and feeling the sand fall between her toes was delightful and made the whole trip worthwhile. The experience forever deepened their bonding.

Left to mourn the loss of Carol’s presence in their lives are her husband of 49 years, Howard; her daughter, Laura (James) McRae; her grandchildren, Michael (Kandice) McRae and McKensey McRae, all of Union City; her siblings, Jean (Ken) Yeakey of Union City, Diane Council of Coldwater and Randy Little of Union City; her brothers-in-law, Terry (Sue) Grigsby of Union City, Roy (Denise Grigsby) of Coldwater and Deo (Kathy) Grigsby of Colon; her sisters-in-law Geraldine (Wendell) Bole of Vicksburg and Penny (Dave) Kaiser of Jonesville; and her mother-in-law, Pauline Grigsby of Union City. She was preceded in death by her parents and her beloved daughter, Annie Grigsby (July 2016).
