Biography

Research Notes

Need evidence of death of younger son George.

Perhaps two father Williams? There are several Williams and their children in this parish at this time. Though 14 children are spaced feasibly.

And Jean/Jane are usually interchangeable! Just imagine locals speaking Scots or Border and a parish registrar from further south in England.

Julian, family generations moving to another church more likely to be because of better prospects elsewhere. E.g. landlords evicting tenants, new turnpike opening, etc. Or two different families conflated!

Re: Gravestone Georges, They are one and the same. George(1739) died 1819. Agnes was his daughter, William(1699) his father.

Might I also suggest adding Jannet(1740) andAnn(1742)to the family, and if you are including Geo(1737) then might Jane(1725) and Jane(1726) be included?

My questions 1: Whether Jean (mother of George's children in all records) is the Jane (Johnston) buried with him as his wife? 2: Where families so faithful to one church likely to change in the next generation? George(1660)+Eliz, then William(1699)+Blanch all at Kirk Andrew then suddenly those of George(1739) all at Gretna...!? (Did the housekeeper get special rates for her cousin or have I got the wrong end of something?

If I'm wrong on these let me know in due course, I'm of chasing William(1660) in Rothbury????
