Biography

John was the third child of Moses and Sarah Jaques Little, born in Newbury, Massachusetts on November 16, 1721. He married first, Temperance, daughter of William and Abigail Greanleaf Ripp on May 14, 1745 in Newburyport, Massachusetts. The couple had at least seven children, four of which survived to adulthood; William Coffin (1745-1816), John, Jr. (1747-1790), Francis (1749-1801) and Mary (1760-1812).

After Temperance died in 1762, John married Apphia. He was a teamster by trade, accumulated considerable wealth and, reportedly, the handsomest man in town. His home was on the corner of Middle ans State Streets in Newburyport. John died May 9, 1799 and is buried in Highland Cemetery^[1][2].
