Mary Jane Littlejohns (aka Littlejohn) was born 12 May 1855 in Mariposa, Victoria County, Canada West (Ontario).[1][2][3] She was the first child of Humphry and Harriet Littlejohns born in Canada following the family's emigration from Devon, England.

On 3 Jan 1883 Mary Jane married Norman McLeod in Ops, Victoria, Ontario, Canada. Her residence at the time of marriage was Ops.[3]

The five oldest children in the family, who were born in England, have birth records using the spelling Littlejohns. The family began to use the Littlejohn spelling after arrival in Canada, and appear this way in the 1861 and subsequent censuses, with the odd record using Littlejohns. It is unlikely that a birth record for Mary Jane will turn up - it might be appropriate to change the LNAB to Littlejohns based on her marriage record, but leaving it as is for now.
Unable to locate her in the 1871 census. She was not living with her parents and siblings.
The birthdate of May 12th appears in the 1901 census. Her marriage record lists her age as 24, but this appears to be an understatement. The 1861 census is the best estimate for the year of birth (1855), given the ages listed for the other children in the family.
