Biography

Thomas Littlejohns was born 18 Jul 1865 in Mariposa, Victoria, Canada West (Ontario).[1]

On 2 Apr 1871 Thomas was living with his parents in Ops, Victoria County, Ontario, Canada. His father's occupation was Farmer.[2]

On 4 Apr 1881 Thomas was living with his parents in Ops, Victoria County, Ontario, Canada. His occupation was Farmer's Son.[3]

On 26 June 1889 Thomas married Minnie Budd in St. Thomas, Pembina, North Dakota, United States.[4] He was the third Littlejohns sibling to marry a Budd sibling; his brother John married Elizabeth Budd in 1878 and his sister Wilmot married Thomas Budd in 1881.

Thomas died on 30 Mar 1893 at the age of 27 in Glasston, Pembina, North Dakota, United States. He was buried in Glasston Cemetery.[1]

Thomas and Minnie had one child, Wilfred.[5]

Research Notes

The name used at birth is not known, but since both the marriage record and cemetery headstone show Littlejohns, that has been used as his LNAB. Most of the siblings born following immigration to Canada used the name Littlejohn in their lifetimes, but no original birth records are available.

Errors in the early census records make verifying his birth year difficult. The birth year of 1865 matches his marriage record. The best source is his detailed headstone transcription.

The place of birth comes from the FAG memorial, presumably from the extensive family records of the memorial's author, Just M (Myrna). At some point between 1861 and 1871 the family moved from Mariposa to Ops, or possibly this is just due to the renaming of townships. Some siblings have Mariposa as a birthplace, and some have Lindsay/Ops.

No death record available in the North Dakota Public Death Index (presumably too early): https://apps.nd.gov/doh/certificates/deathCertSearch.htm

The FAG memorial includes the middle name Wilfred, but no other sources use this name. Presumably this also comes from Myrna (Thomas's great-granddaughter). Note that Thomas and Minnie's son was named Wilfred.
