Biography

Tilley was born in 1793. He is the son of John Littlejohn and Katherine Fairbanks.

In January 1834, Tilley and Peter Bargy Jr. bought a small house and lot in Bouckville, NY for $1400.^[1] Both men lived in Frankfort, NY at the time and were quite active buying and selling real estate in and around Frankfort. Peter was a public works contractor who had been hired by New York to help build the Chenango Canal, which passed through Bouckville. It seems likely that Peter lived there while working on the canal. In February 1835 Peter bought Tilley's half of the property for $700,^[2] and several months later Peter sold the property back to the original owner for $1400.^[3]

He passed away in 1882.

Research Notes

A records search in FamilySearch shows that Tilley served in the War of 1812, and also shows numerous purchases and/or sales of real estate in Herkimer County, mostly in the 1830's.
