Note

As you know, my ggg gf was John Wesley Littleton b 25 May 1806 supposedly
in Loudoun Co, VA. This date was provided years ago to my father by
another descendant but I have NEVER been able to verify it or find where she
found it. He married an Elizabeth Ann Tavenner 26 Mar 1829 (in Loudoun
marriage books), had a son Daniel 1830 and was in Springfield area, Clark Co, OH
by birth of second son, Charles, in 1831. I know the Tavenners were in the
Shelbourne Parish area. There are also a brother and sister Littleton who
married a brother and sister Tavenner in Loudoun but a bit later. James
married Laura Tavenner 28 Jan 1875 and Charlotte married Howard Eugene
Tavenner 22 Dec 1870.
Several things about my John Wesley Littleton and your Charlotte Littleton
are really strange and do point to some relationship but what?
A John W Littleton was bondsman to her wedding to Bernard Watkins Sep 1834,
BUT my John W was in central OH at that time. Did he travel back to VA to
do this or could he be bondsman but live elsewhere??
My John W died in 1838 in OH leaving a wife, 3 sons and a daughter. His
wife remarried and moved to Kenton, Hardin Co, OH which was nearby.
As you said, --- Charlotte and her husband migrated to Fredericktown in
Knox Co, OH ca
1836 then to Warren Co, IL, (Lenox Twp) ca 1850 then to Montgomery Co, IA
ca 1872 where she died.
This is where it starts to get weird. In tracking the sons of John W
Littleton, I found his son Daniel on the 1860 Monmouth Twp, Warren Co, IL
census and his brother Charles on the 1860 Lenox Twp, Warren Co, IL census along
with his mother (now Elizabeth Ann Vansky).
By 1870 son Charles was in Des Moines Co, IA
When John W died in Apr 1838 in Clark Co, OH, in his estate there was a
debt (about $100) owed to him by a Lorenzo D Littleton.
John W lived near the Clark Co & Madison Co, OH county border.
I found this in Madison Co, OH - Lorenzo D. LITTLETON; Sp. Sideny Normow,
m. 14 Jan 1838.
Also in 1838 there was a non delivered letter to my John W at the post
office from a Lorenzo Littleton.
Did John lend him money to get married?
John W was a carpenter and this is the IL census for Lorenzo:
L. D. Littleton Age 50 Carpenter b. VA
To make it even more weird, I have never found anything more on Lorenze D
Littleton EXCEPT there is a Lorenzo D Littleton ALSO listed in the 1860
Monmouth Twp, Warren Co, IL census also.
I believe this is Lorenzo's Civil War record and I think he died in
Monmouth Co but not sure. I have not been able to track down any info on him.
Lorenzo D Littleton b: Abt. 1810 VA On 1860 Monmouth Twp, Warren Co, IL
census
enl 22 Oct 1861 from Monmouth - Comp C 11th Ill Cav, dischg 8 Jul 1862
then mustered 26 Aug 1862 (living in Anna, Union Co, IL) in 8th Ill Inf
Comp I, disc due to disability 26 May 1863
(this is also interesting because many Littletons ended up in Union Co,
IL)
So how did John's son and Charlotte and Lorenzo all end up in IL?
Here are the Loudoun Littleton entries from the 1830 Census index:
p:l. 064:12 LITTLETON, Joel Shelburne Parish
p:l. 102:15 LITTLETON, John Shelburne Parish
p:l. 021:20 LITTLETON, Lawson Shelburne Parish
p:l. 028:21 LITTLETON, Thomas Leesburg
p:l. 109:19 LITTLETON, Thomas Shelburne Parish
p:l. 103:05 LITTLETON, William Shelburne Parish
Any ideas are more than welcome.

Elizabeth Ann Tavenner married John Wesley Littleton 26 Mar 1829 in Loudoun Co, VA
Moved to Clark Co, OH late 1830, early 1831
John Wesley died 6 Apr 1838 in Clark Co, OH
Married Samuel Perry Vansky 7 Nov 1841 in Hardin Co, OH
Samuel died 20 Mar 1850 in Hardin Co, OH
Ann on 1850 Hardin census as Ann Littleton, widow, with Littleton and Vansky kids
Married Henry M Hatfield 20 Mar 1851 in Hardin Co, OH (1 year anniv of Samuel's death??) [SSP:No this is another Elizabeth Vansky as they appear on 1860 census ages 30s.]
Ann on 1860 Warren Co, IL census as N Van Sky, widow, with Vansky kids & son Charles Littleton & wife [SSP: Bernard and Charlotte Littleton Watkins also in Warren Co, IL at this time.]
Henry died 8 May 1862 in Civil War in VA
Ann returns to Hardin Co to live with son Randolph in 1870 & 1880 census.
I have been working lately on my ever elusive John Wesley Littleton who was born in the Loudoun, Fairfax Co VA area in 1806 and married Elizabeth Ann Tavenner 21 Mar 1829 in Loudoun. They were in Clark Co, OH before 1831 and with land records, I have found other Tavenners living in the exact same area and I have linked Elizabeth Ann into that family and I KNOW where they were in Loudoun Co. An area called Hamilton which I have figured out is in Shelburne Parish near Goose Creek. There were supposedly a lot of LITTLETONs in Shelbourn but the local records were lost I was told.
*********
A Lorenzo D Littleton owed my ggg gf John Wesley Littleton $22 according to a note dated Sept 1836 in Johns estate and a year later there was an unclaimed letter (man would I love to find that) for Lorenzo in the Brighton, Clark Co, OH post office. John lived in or near Brighton.
John W - my gggf. Married in Loudoun Co, VA - That's the ONLY hard proof I have of his existence there. He had 4 kids and I have most of those lines up to present except for the daughter. It is his son Charles W that tended to be found where Lorenzo and Charlotte went. He died in Clark Co, OK and I have had several researchers tear that county apart for a death cert or obit but none is to be found. Only his estate papers that don't tell much.
The Charles William Littleton I'm looking for was a son of my ggg gf John Wesley Littleton (from Loudoun). John Wesley died in Ohio in 6 Apr 1838 when Charles was very young. In John Wesley's estate papers is a copy of a loan he made to a Lorenzo D Littleton in 1837.
A Lorenzo Littleton was married in the neighboring county - Madison Co, OH 14 Jan 1838. A year after that, there was an unclaimed letter for Lorenzo at the post office in the little town where John Wesley died. I just found a Lorenzo D Littleton buried in the Monmouth Cem, Warren Co, IL as a Civil War veteran.
All possibly the same person? Borrowed money from John Wesley to get married, then went to IL?
The loan was never resolved in the estate settlement and they were VERY thorough with his estate. There were several Lorenzo Littletons in the Loudoun Co, VA area at the time John Wesley was born.

From Terry Littleton:
John Wesley Littletons first son was born 29 Jan 1830 in VA and his second son was born 18 Oct 1831 in Clark Co, OH.
Someone just sent me an entry they found for a John W Littleton on the 1830 Pleasant Twp, Clark Co, OH census. So it appears they went to Ohio between Jan and when the census was taken later in 1830.
Males 1 under 5 (this would be his first son born in VA)
Males 3 20-30 INTERESTING !!!! John would have been 24 but WHO THE HECK are the other 2 males 20-30? Lorenzo? Who else?
Females 1 15-20 His wife Elizabeth would have been 19

Wednesday, 9 March 1859 Vol. IV, No. 26 Died: At the residence of his son, Thomas LITTLETON, in Leesburg, on Sunday, 27th of Feb, Mr. John LITTLETON, in his 78th year. Member of the Methodist Episcopal Church for upwards of half a century.
Correspondence
John W.Littleton and Emily Carter obtained a marriage license on March 2,1844 in Loudoun county. No record of actual date of marriage was on record. Please keep me informed of any new information you get on these folks and their line. I'd be grateful. I'm thinking John W. might be the brother of William D.,Charles M.,and Eli Littleton. I came across brother Eli as I was scrolling through the microfilm looking for Billy(that's what he was called) and Amanda,my gggGrandparents. I saw Eli(55),his wife(47),and daughter Elizabeth(24) and on the very same page just about 4 families above was John and Emily and their 7 children. Here goes:
John W. Littleton, 44 years old.
Emily Carter Littleton, 34
Sarah, 14
Albert D., 11
Thomas I., 8
John F.,7
Ida, 4
Townsend, 2
Laura, 1
I jotted down Berry's Ferry. I don't know if it was Clarke or Loudoun county.
So now Terry, this leads me back to my original question. Are you certain that you have the correct John W.for your grandfather? If I remember correctly you thought he was a little old for this family.
I can't remember how old Charles was or the year of his birth. However we know that Eli was born in 1805,William in 1811, and this John W. in 1816. When was your John W. born? Also to have found Eli and this John W. living in close proximity in the same place and time and both are in the census as farmers makes me wonder if they could be brothers. Another clue is that awhile back I looked up what I believe might have been their father. I found in the 1830 or maybe 1840 census a man named William Littleton with A wife and 4 boys. There were no names but the boys were all in different age categories which indicated to me they were all at least 5 or more years apart. There were no daughters.
I sent away for that will but it sure is taking its time getting here. What was in that will anyway? Once again, why do you believe that Elizabeth Tavenner's husband John W. is the one that belongs in this family? Is it not possible that Emily Carter's husband John W. belongs with this family? And the beat goes on.... Cynthia

I did find a marriage of a Lorenzo to a Sidney Morrow (at least after trying to figure out the mis spelling I think that is the name) 14 Jan 1838 in Madison Co, OH which is the next Eastern county in Ohio to Clark and John lived on the extreme East side of Clark Co. So were talking less then 15 miles.
Below is attached an outline of this VA family. There are several Lorenzos but no Charlottes. Notice the people that went to Ohio. Solomon took his family to Warren Co, OH and it appears about the early 1830's. My John Wesley Littleton (obviously Methodist family) went to Clark Co, OH about 1830 and a Susan H Littleton married a Wilfred Allison and went to Mechanicsburg, Champaign Co, OH (the immediate N county and Mechanicsburg is again about 15 miles from where John W was. The family of Solomon was on the other side of Springfield about 20 miles away.
What is real interesting is that Lorenzo and Charlotte and my Littletons keep popping up together. On the 1850 Knox Co, OH census there is a L D Lyttleton age 37 herve joiner (some kind of carpenter?) b VA enumerated with an Issabella Doedsaff or Woodsuff. Charlotte was also in Knox Co.
Two of Johns sons were on the 1860 Warren Co, IL census, one in Lenox and one in Monmouth Twp. So it appears that Charlotte, Lorenzo and 2 of my Johns sons were ALL in Warren Co, IL in 1860.
I have the military outfits Lorenzo served with from Monmouth Co and I just sent off for the forms to request his Civil War military and pension records. MAYBE those will show something.
So let's see here.
John W was b May 1806 Loudoun Co, VA and was a carpenter
Married Mar 1829 Loudoun Co, VA
Moved to Clark Co, Ohio abt 1830 and died there 1838
Lent Money to a Lorenzo D Littleton Sept of 1836
One son, Daniel Jackson Littleton is listed on the 1860 Monmouth Twp, Warren Co, IL census as school teacher
Another son, Charles William Littleton was on the 1860 Lenox Twp, Warren Co, IL census
By the way, Lenox Twp is immediately south of Monmouth Twp, Warren Co, IL and it appears that Knox Co is about 50 miles NE of Clark, Champaign and Madison Co, Ohio.
Lorenzo D was b abt 1810 in VA and was a carpenter. On 1850 Knox Co, OH census.
Listed on 1860 Monmouth Twp, Warren Co, IL census in family of George Bittles 27 IL and his wife Charlotte 26 IL Served in Civil War from there and I am pretty sure he died there.
Charlotte Littleton b Mar 1811 in Loudoun Co, VA
Married Sep 1834 Loudoun Co, VA to Bernard Watkins
John W Littleton was listed as her bondsman (curious as my John W was in OH - did he come back to VA for this?)
Moved to Knox Co, OH 1835 (Berlin Twp?)
Moved to Monmouth Twp, Warren Co, IL 1850
On 1860 Lenox Twp, Warren Co, IL
OK, now YOU figure it out HA HA

However, there are no known yDNA or mtDNA test-takers in his direct paternal or maternal line. It is likely that these autosomal DNA test-takers will share some percentage of DNA with John Wesley:
