Biography

US Black Heritage Project
Fannie (Livingston) McCay is a part of US Black heritage.

Fannie McCay was interviewed in the late 1930's in Miami, Dade County, Florida as part of the Federal Writer's Project of the Works Progress Administration (WPA).

"Fannie McCay, 1720 NW 3rd Court, Miami, Florida was born on a plantation while her mother and father were slaves; she claims her age is 73 years which would make her too young to remember "mancipation"." The interview can be read here, on image 380. The results are made available by the Library of Congress.[1]

She was a member of the "Ex Slave Club." [2]

"This club now claims twenty-five members, all over 88 years of age."'

Fannie 'West' was enumerated as a widow in the 1900 U.S. Census[3]
