Biography

Ieuan of Radur, son of Llywelyn ap Cynwrig ap Hywel, married Jonet ferch Thomas as her second husband. His father, who was living in 1277, married (1) Jonet ferch Cynfyn Fychan, (2) NN ferch Sir Ralph Maelog (Sir Ralph's uncle Ralph, living in 1215, died in 1231).[1]

Ieuan's children were Madog, Dafydd, Gruffudd Fawr, Llywelyn, and (possibly) Philip Fawr.[2][3]

Dafydd married Sara ferch Elidir.[2]
Gruffudd Fawr was his son by an unnamed mistress.[2]
Llywelyn[4] married a daughter of Ieuan ap Gruffudd ap Iorwerth (Gruffudd was living in 1358).[5]

Research Notes

Estimated Dates: As of 12 October 2023: Born 1279, married 1336, died 1341. There are some date anomalies in other generations, research for which had been on this profile but was moved to "Descendants of Ifor Bach & Gwrgan ab Ithel" on 13 October 2023, since it appears that the dates for this Ieuan and his immediate family are ok (aside from the age gap between him & his wife).

Dates and Places in datafields: as of 9 October 2023:

  • Born 1279 in Radur, Meisgyn, Glamorgan, Wales[6] - Ieuan's father Llwelyn was living in 1277.[4]
    • born Radur is good; born 1279 could be for him or Ieuaf (Ap_Llywelyn-32).
  • Married in 1336 in Radur to Jonet ferch Thomas,[6] who was born in 1325 (per WikiTree as of 9 October 2023).
    • Radur is prob. still good but 1336 doesn't seem to work for either this Ieuan or for Ieuaf.
    • If Jonet was born in 1325, marriage in 1340 works for her[7] (m in 1336 doesn't).
    • Jonet born 1325/married in 1340 also works with 1341 (birth year per WikiTree for their son Llywelyn).
    • Marriage 1340 - Ieuan would have been 61 (if born 1279) - that's a bit more of an age gap than normal.[7]
  • Son Llywelyn ap Ieuan (born 1341).[6]
  • Ieuan ap Llywelyn died in 1338.[6]
    • could be for him (68) or Ieuaf (77).

Jonets: The Ieuan portrayed by this profile married Jonet ferch Thomas,[2] and his mother's name might have been Jonet also. Ieuaf's wife was Jonet ferch Bleddyn (see his profile).

The two wives of Ieuan's father both have profiles with Jonet as their given names - one is ferch Ralph and one is ferch Cynfyn, although Bartrum has "NN" (no name) for the daughter of Sir Ralph.[1]

Gawdyn: He and Gawdyn, father of Crisli (wife of Ieuan ap Gruffydd), are brothers[1] (half brothers?).

1316 Revolt: His dates as they are now (1279-1341) would have him in his prime in 1316, but as of 12 October 2023 his role in Llywelyn Bren's Revolt (if any) has not been found nor a definitive link to any of those named (see Llywelyn Bren's profile).

I've now tackled the issues surrounding Llywelyn ap Ieuan (ap Ieuan-22) except for the apparent conflation of this profile for his father. As I heard no objection, I'll proceed with creating a new profile to represent the father of Madog (Ieauf-1), "Ieuaf ap Llywelyn".

update - created a profile for Ieuaf ap Llywelyn (abt.1270-), then went looking for family members and discovered Ieuaf ap Llywelyn (abt.1230-). WikiTree missed the match because my date estimate was based on the profile for Ieauf-1 (1299) and the existing profile's date was based on the date for a duplicate of Ieauf-1 - Madog Foel ap Ieuaf (abt.1270-). Merges for have been proposed for duplicates of father and son.

I have no objection to you working on this profile go ahead and straighten out this conflated line.

I thank You in advance for all your efforts.

All done. If anyone knows what his role may have been during Llywelyn Bren's 1316 Revolt, please post!

Thanks, Liz

Text does not support the recently added category [Category: Eglwyseg, Wales], or am I missing something?

edit - added what the name of the category, which was removed

edit2 - what I was missing is that the Ieuan ap Llywelyn of Eglwyseg had been conflated with this profile. I've added the current category (Category:Eglwyseg) to his "deconflated" profile: Ieuaf ap Llywelyn (abt.1270-).
