Isaac became an apprentice to Robert Benson, a wholesale grocer of Kendal, Westmorland, who0 had married his mother's sister Dorothy Braithwaite.[3] In 1824 he became a partner in the newly-created Stockport and East Cheshire Bank. After its takeover by another bank in 1829, Isaac retired with a large honorarium. In the mid-1830s he joined the Wilts and Dorset Joint Stock Bank, remaining with them until 1845, and was based initially at Poole, Dorset and then at Melksham, Wiltshire.[3]
Isaac went on to live at Bath, Weston-super-Mare and Bristol, and resided for his last years at Birmingham.[3]
Unlike his father and some others of his family, Isaac did not leave the Quakers at the ed of the 1830s.[3]
On 18 September 1828, Isaac married Mary Rigge, daughter of Isaac Rigge of Kendal, Westmorland, card-maker, and his deceased wife Margaret, at Preston Patrick Quaker Meeting, Westmorland. The Quaker marriage record gives his residence as Stockport, Cheshire and his occupation as banker.[4] They had five sons (of whom two died in childhood) and one daughter:
Isaac Wilson, born at Bristol on 6 January 1836,[13][14] who died on 11 February 1837 and was buried at Poole Quaker burial ground, Dorset on 17 February[15]
Howard, whose birth was registered at Poole, Dorset in the 3rd quarter of 1837[16]
Hannah Mary, whose birth was registered in the Edmonton district of Middlesex in the 2nd quarter of 1840[17]
Isaac died at Birmingham, Warwickshire on 17 October 1883.[3] His death was registered in the Aston district of Warwickshire in the 4th quarter of 1883.[18]
Isaac featured in The Journal of the Friends Historical Society in 1926, in an article entitled 'Friends Meeting House In Bristol 1850' accompanying a painting of several of the friends:[19]
ISAAC LLOYD (1801-1883) settled in Bristol, with three sons and one daughter. He had married, in 1828, Mary Rigge (1801-1867), of Kendal. He was the fifth son of Sampson Lloyd of Birmingham. His sons Edward and Howard (mentioned by Theodore Hunt) married daughters of John Eliot Howard. " Isaac Lloyd was a very orthodox Friend and appeared to be a very wealthy man." He is the only Friend represented with his hat on his head. The family returned to Birmingham.
