Biography

Sarah Jane Lloyd was born in 1838 in Castle Church, Staffordshire, England to Thomas Johnson Lloyd and Mary (Follows) Lloyd. Her birth was registered in Stafford, Staffordshire in the first quarter of the year, with mother's maiden name Follows.^[1]

Sarah Jane Lloyd, daughter of Thomas & Mary, was christened on 11 Mar 1838 in Castle Church.^[2]

Sarah's mother Mary Lloyd passed away in 1839.

Sarah's father Thomas Johnson Lloyd married Sarah Follows in 1840.

In 1841 Sarah Lloyd (age 3) lived at Forebridge in Castle Church with her father Thomas (40-44), stepmother Sarah (35-39), and three brothers: Thomas (14), George (7), and John (0), as well as William Webb (45-49) and Eliza Follows (15-19).^[3]

In 1851 Sarah Jane Lloyd (age 13, Scholar) lived at Lichfield Street in Castle Church with her father Thomas (52, Chair Maker Journeyman), stepmother Sarah (48, Laundress), and three half-brothers: John (10, Scholar), James (7, Scholar), and Joseph (5, Scholar).^[4]

Sarah Jane Lloyd (age 21, daughter of Thomas Lloyd) married Thomas Barlow (age 22, son of Thomas Barlow) on 19 Nov 1859 in Paul Parish, Forebridge, Stafford.^[5] The marriage was registered in Stafford in the last quarter of the year.^[6]

Sarah and Thomas had two sons:

1. Albert William Barlow (1865-)
2. Arthur John Barlow (1868-)

In 1861 Sarah Barlow (age 22, Shoe Binder) was a visitor at Garden Street in Castle Church in the household of Jeanmarie Hewson.^[7] Her husband Thomas (24, Shoemaker) lived at Garden Street in Castle Church with his father and siblings.

In 1871 Sarah Barlow (age 33) lived in Lee St Margaret, Kent with her husband Thomas (33, Cordwainer) and two sons: Albert W (6) and Arthur J (2).^[8]

In 1881 Sarah Barlow (age 43, Laundress) lived at Wanless Rd in Lambeth, London with her husband Thomas (43, Boot Maker) and two sons: Albert (16, Labourer) and Arthur (13, Milk Boy).^[9]

Unable to locate Sarah on any further census records - her husband is still listed as married in 1891, but is widowed by 1911.
