Biography

Carroll Ross Lloyd, November 30, 1922 - April 2, 2014 Lloyd, Carroll Ross - 91, passed away peacefully at the Valley Regional Hospital in Kentville, on April 2, 2014. Born in East Sable River, Shelburne Co. on November 30, 1922 to the late Robert Ross and Wilhelmina (Harding) Lloyd. Carroll was predeceased in 2005 by his first wife of 59 years, Shirley Elizabeth Thompson and his siblings; Tilley, Percy, Phyllis, Harry, Cyril, Burns and Paul. Carroll is survived by his present wife Lois (Greeno) Rhodes Lloyd, with whom he shared joy and contentment for the last eight years; his children: Raymond (Sharon) Ottawa; Mary Cross (Dee MacNeil) Lower Sackville; Louise (John) Croft, Dartmouth; Ruth (Gary) Wood, Lower Sackville, Arthur (Deb) Calgary; Timothy (Lee Callandar) Calgary; Carroll "Rob", Centreville; Daniel (Cathy) Calgary; step daughters Carolyn (Charles) Boylan, Medicine Hat; Marilyn (Reginald) Archibald, Bridgewater; 17 grandchildren and 15 great-grandchildren. Extended family: Eric (Barb) Ross, Sherbrooke Lake; and Joyce (Hal) MacKenzie, Canaan. After graduation from high school, Carroll was a commercial fisherman for two years before joining the Canadian Army in January 1943, serving in Canada and overseas. Upon returning to Canada in 1946, Carroll attended Maritime Business College (Accounting); was employed with the Department of Highways Accounting Department until 1959. From June 1959 until retirement on 30 November 1982, Carroll held the position of Treasurer at the Technical University of Nova Scotia (TUNS). With a strong belief in giving back to the community "for the good of his fellow man", Carroll was involved in many volunteer organizations and committees. He was a founding member of the Province House Credit Union , from the time he started working for the Dept. of Highways to several years after retiring. He held many posts in this organization including: Assistant treasurer, Board Member, President and member of numerous committees and delegate at numerous conventions most of those years. He spent ten years as a Director of the Home for Aged Men. He was an active member of West End Baptist Church in Halifax, for thirty-seven years and served in many capacities, including that of Chairman of the Board of Deacons. After "retiring" to Wolfville in 1982, Carroll became involved with the Acadia Divinity College where he: served on the Board of Governors, as President for one term; became the first General Chairman of the Atlantic Provinces Fund Raising Committee - traveling with Dr. A.J. Langley throughout the Atlantic Provinces and served on numerous committees and National Conventions in this endeavor. During these years, the Lloyd household was open to many Acadia University students as a welcoming "Home Away From Home". He joined the congregation of the Wolfville Baptist Church where he served on numerous church committees and was appointed Honorary Deacon in 2000. Carroll was a proud Canadian which was reflected in his numerous trips in Canada from coast to coast to coast. He was an avid outdoors-man, enjoying camping, hunting, canoeing, cross-country skiing, walking and fishing, with family and friends. In keeping with Carroll's wishes, cremation has taken place and a time for sharing memories with his family will be held at the Serenity Lindsay Annapolis Valley Funeral Home, Coldbrook Chapel, on Sunday, April 6, 2014, from 3pm to 7pm. A memorial service will take place on Monday, April 7, 2014 at 2pm, in the Wolfville Baptist Church, with Rev. Barry Morrison officiating. Burial to take place at the East Sable River Cemetery at a later date.
