Notes for Randall Lockhart: He was often referred to as Rondall Lockhart[1]

Family Relationships

Note that Randall McDonald received a grant in Beverley Manor in 1740 for 141 acres. The land was about 3 miles southeast of Staunton. Since James Lockhart had a son named Randall Lockhart (born 1736 or 1737), it seems likely that James Lockhart married a sister of Randall McDonald. In the 1790 census of Brandywine Township, Chester County, Pennsylvania, there is also a listing for another man named Randle McDonald, who, because of the rarity of name combination, was probably related to the Randall McDonald of Augusta County. In the 1790 census, Randle McDonald is a near neighbor of the descendants of Patrick Lockhart, who died in Chester County in 1755.

Cunningham Connection

CUNNINGHAM

There is a marriage at Trinity or Old Swedes' Church, Wilmington, New Castle County, Delaware for Jacob Lacha( )d and Mary Cunningham, 10 March 1740. The letter in parenthesis is probably an "r," but may be an "n." The ink is blotchy at this point on the original handwritten record. See LDS microfilm 6693, and page 242 of the original record.

Thanks to Jerry Lockhart for finding this marriage in January 2013. I was the source for the idea that Mary Montgomery was the second wife of Jacob Lockhart Sr, and this name subsequently has been repeated in many rootsweb files. Now it appears that Mary Cunningham was more likely his second wife. In either case, it seems that Mary, the second wife of Jacob Lockhart Sr of Augusta County had as her maternal grandparents Antoine de Saussure Perronet Crocketagne and Louise Dessaix.

If Mary Cunningham was the second wife of Jacob Lockhart, then see the marriage of Randall Lockhart (son of James Lockhart of Augusta County) to Isabella Cunningham (daughter of John Cunningham; he the son of James Cunningham) in 1760. Also see the early landholders in the Beverley Patent (part of Augusta County, Virginia) named David Cunningham and Robert Cunningham (also sons of James Cunningham). David Cunningham's land (granted in 1745 and 1771) was adjacent to James Lockhart's land (granted in 1745). David and Robert had a brother named Charles, so this Charles could be the source of the name Charles Lockhart (son of Jacob Lockhart Sr of Augusta County), and from the 1740 marriage date, above, it could be that Charles Lockhart was the first child of Jacob Lockhart and Mary Cunningham. So, was Mary Cunningham a sister of David, Robert, and Charles Cunningham, all of them being children of James Cunningham? [7]

Marriage
