Biography

Marriage

NOTE: This COULD have been a second marriage for either since in 1830 their household had a male child aged 5-10 years old. Most likely, because of the age difference, it was John's second marriage? Since Mary was the daughter of Isiah Potts[1], it can be assumed that this IS a second marriage for John??? Need to review an 1850's census for children's names and also search for any older Potts/Lockharts born between 1820-1825.

John and Mary were married in Mason county, Virginia (West Virginia).

To view an image of their marriage record click HERE. Lower page of image, 6th entry.

One author states " Marriage: WFT Est. 1816-1845, Gallia County, Ohio"[2] which is disproved with the above record BUT This could be a starting point for researching this John's origins. Most southern Ohio Lockhart's descend from Robert Lockhart of Frederick County, Virginia as he had hundreds of acres in the Adams County, Ohio area after the revolution. This is not to say that a direct connection between this John and Maj. Robert, but a possible starting point for research of this John's origins.

See: Maj. Robert Lockhart.

Children?

There is listed one male in the household 70-80 and one 40-50 years old. It is unknown whether the head of household was the younger of the two, but the eldest female is listed as 30-40 years. The eldest male could be this John's or Mary's father??? But if so, would not a burial record be shown for either in the family cemetery? See source below for two websites to review those listed in the cemetery.[6]

DNA Connections
It may be possible to confirm family relationships with John by comparing test results with other carriers of his Y-chromosome or his mother's mitochondrial DNA. However, there are no known yDNA or mtDNA test-takers in his direct paternal or maternal line. It is likely that these autosomal DNA test-takers will share some percentage of DNA with John:
