Biography

Hannah Loofborough aka Loughborough was born may 30, 1734, in Hatborough, Upper Dublin Township, in Philadelphia county, Pennsylvania one of four children of Nathaniel Lofborough and Margaret Besset [1] "Nathaniel Loofbourow of Hatborough, Innholder" the first known tavern-keeper of Hatborough, died when Hannah was about six years of age. Hannah's mother continued to manager the Inn, commonly known as the "Crooked Billet Tavern." In 1742, Hannah's mother married David Rees, a cabinet-maker form Bucks county, Pennsylvania. Her mother had four more children with her second husband, and so Hannah's childhood was certainly an active one. [2]

On April 19, 1756, in Abington Township, Philadelphia county, Pennsylvania, Hannah [Lovsberry] married Nathan Spencer, [3] born July 30, 1734, in Upper Dublin Township, a son of Samuel Spencer and Mary Dawes. [4] Before the American Revolution, Hannah and Nathan migrated to Loudoun county, Virginia, where they rendered material aid in support of the Continental Army. [5] For this act of patriotism, Nathan Spencer is honored by the Society of the Daughters of the American Revolution as DAR Ancestor #A107061. • William Spencer 1765-1835, who married Sarah Hatcher [9]

  • Hannah Spencer 1770-1866
  • Rachel Spencer 1773-

Hannah died March 20, 1802, in Loudoun county, Virginia and is buried in the Goose Creek Burying Ground, in Lincoln, Loudoun county, Virginia. [11] Nathan Spencer, Sr.survived her and was buried with her. According to his Find A Grave memorial, Nathan wrote his Will the day his wife died and it was probated on December 8, 1806. According to DAR records, Nathan died January 30, 1809, in Loudoun county, Virginia, and his wife's name was "Hannah Lufborough."
