William Lofton was born around 1800. He is most likely the brother of Mary Melvina Lofton, wife of Zachariah Fletcher.
William Lofton is found in Telfair County, Georgia as a single man in 1820. He may have moved there along with his sister and future brother in law. [1]
He married Merine Mitchell in that county on March 17, 1825. [2]
He was eligible for a draw in the 1827 Georgia Land Lottery. He was a fortunate drawer during the 1827 Georgia Land Lottery, on the 14th days drawing which occurred March 22, 1827. He drew Lot #160 District # 4 in Carroll County, Georgia . He was a resident of Wilson's Militia District at the time of the drawing. [3]
It is possible this was the father, although if he did come to Georgia, then he moved back to South Carolina prior to his death.
