Biography

John was born in 1876. ^[1] He was the son of John Loftus and Mary Burke.

In 1910 he married Rose Gallagher in March in Bohola ^[2]

In June 1910 Rose died from hyperemesis - severe vomiting in pregnancy ^[3]

John Loftus, bachelor farmer of Rosclavin, son of John Loftus, married Ellen Noone, spinster of Treenduff, daughter of Michael Noone, on 15 March 1911 at the Roman Catholic Church of Bohola, Kiltinagh, Swineford, County Mayo, Ireland. The witnesses were John O’Grady, Patrick Philben and Sarah Noone.^{[4] [5]}

When the 1911 census was taken he was living with Ellen's father and his wife Ellen in Toocananagh (Toocananagh, Mayo). John Loftus was 32, son-in-law of the householder, and a farmer. The other household members were recorded as Michael Noone, age 69, a widower, occupation farmer, and Ellen Loftus, 24, daughter of the householder, married for under one year, with no children. All were Roman Catholic and born in County Mayo.^[6] He was also recorded in his parents' household in Rathslevin, Toocananagh, as their son John Loftus, age 34 and single, but the entry was subsequently struck through, presumably because it was a duplicate.^[7]

John and Ellen had the following children:

He passed away in 1957 on 8th August aged 81 ^{[8] [9]}
