Adam Loftus, 1st Viscount Loftus of Ely was born in 1568, the son of Robert Loftus and Ann Unknown Loftis. Adam Loftus was First Chancelor of Ireland.[1] His uncle, also named Adam Loftus, was Archbishop of Armagh and Dublin.
Adam married Sarah Bathow, widow of Richard Meredith, bishop of Leighlin in 1597. They had four sons and two daughters including the following children:[2]
Robert married Eleanor, daughter of Sir Francis Rushe. Robert died before his father, leaving only a daughter.
Edward married Miss Lyndley. He succeeded to the peerage as the 2nd Viscount.
George, third son died 14 May 1660
Francis, fourth son died 1 Dec 1629
Lettice married 1st to L. Col Philip Fernley, married 2nd to Nathaniel Desborough
Alice the younger daughter, married Charles Moore, afterwards Earl of Drogheda.
Adam held the following offices and titles:
Archdeacon of Glendalough, co. Wicklow between 1594 and 1643.
Invested as a Knight in 1604.
Invested as a Privy Counsellor (P.C.) Ireland in 1608.
Member of Parliament (M.P.) for King's County between 1613 and 1615.
Lord Chancellor of Ireland between 1619 and 1638.
Created 1st Viscount Loftus of Ely, King's Co. Ireland on 10 May 1622.
Viscount Loftus died in 1643 at Middleham, Yorkshire, England. [3]

Loftus-229 and Loftus-98 appear to represent the same person because: These both seem to be the son of Robert Loftus, but I don't believe he went to Trinity College.
