Helen was named for her paternal grandmother and her birthdate is highly contested. She was a witness to Robert Fenwick's will in 1723, which implies she was at least 16 years at the time. Her christening record and first marriage record are not found though she was mentioned in her father's will dated 18 March 1719/20. She inherited property (not held in trust) and she was not assigned a trustee nor guardian.
