FAG states: John Dickinson Logan was the grandson of founding father John Dickinson of what is now Delaware, Maryland, and Pennsylvania. He has an interesting life story including the penning of "Letters of a farmer in Pennsylvania". He was involved in the Continental Congress as well as being a president of Pennsylvania. In 1784, Dickinson and his wife, Mary "Polly" Norris Dickinson bequeathed much of their combined library and some land in Carlisle, Pennsylvania that Mary had inherited, to the first university founded in the new United States, originally named John and Mary's College in their honor by its founder Benjamin Rush and later renamed Dickinson College because it was confused with William and Mary College in Virginia.
