Biography

This profile is part of the Logsdon Name Study.

Mary Elizabeth Logsdon was born in Hart County, Kentucky on 12 Nov 1820. She was the daughter of James Oliver Logsdon and Sarah E. "Sallie" Jones.

Mary married Shadrack Reynolds in about 1838, probably in Hart County, where they settled on his farm.[1][2] They had 13 children known from documentation, the first eight born in Hart County, Kentucky:

In about 1855, Mary and Shadrack moved their family north to Iowa, where they joined friends and relatives who had already settled there in Jasper County. Shadrack's farm (possibly leased) was located in Malaka Township, not far from the town of Newton.[33]

After Shadrack's death on 16 Jul 1875,[34] Mary lived with her adult son, Thomas, and several of the younger children in Grand River Township, Madison County, Iowa, where she kept house while Thomas and Greenburg worked as farm laborers.[35] In the household at the time of the 1880 census was Mary's grandson, six-year-old Archie Reynolds.[36]

Mary married again at the age of 66, on 6 Oct 1887, in Newton, Jasper County, Iowa. Her second husband was her second cousin, George W. Logsdon, who had also been widowed.[37] George's first wife was Mary's sister, Mourning Frances Logsdon.

Mary Elizabeth (Logsdon) Reynolds Logsdon died on 22 Aug 1889, in Newton, Jasper County, Iowa. She was buried in Bridges Cemetery in Jasper County.[38]
