Biography

Mary Ann Lomas was born in 1835 in Carlton, Nottinghamshire, England to Samuel Lomas and Hannah (Chantry) Lomas.

Mary Ann Lomas, daughter of Samuel, a publican, & Hannah, residing at Carlton, was christened on 12 Apr 1835 at All Hallows in Gedling, Nottinghamshire.[1]

Mary and her family moved to Derbyshire in or before 1841.

In 1841 Mary Lomas (age 5) lived at Park St in Derby, Derbyshire with her father Samuel (30-34), mother Hannah (30-34), and brother Samuel (10).[2]

In 1851 Mary Ann Lomas (age 15) lived in Derby with her father Samuel (41, Railway Clerk (Locomotive)), mother Hannah (41), brother Samuel (20, Locomotive Fireman), and servant Ann Webster (16, House Servant).[3]

Mary Ann Lomas married Samuel Hague Smith in 1853.

Mary and her family emigrated to New Zealand in 1859.

Mary Ann Smith, wife of Samuel Hague Smith, was buried in 1872 in the Weslyan section of Symonds Street Cemetery, Auckland.
