Francesco was born Dec 13 1884 [1] in Melfi, Potenza, Basilicata, Italy.
Emigrated to the US alone on Oct 24 1907 with $9 [2][3]when he was 22 years old. He settled in Elizabeth NJ and married Elvira Orazio Dec 10 1911. [4] They had 9 children together [5][6]
All of his sons served in WWII. His youngest Vincent died serving his country. Francesco applied for US citizenship in 1943 while all 5 of his sons were overseas serving in WWII and became a US citizen 20 January 1947 [7][8]
Worked in the foundry of the Singer Sewing machine factory on Marshall st in Elizabeth for many years. According to census data and draft registration cards Francesco never learned to read or write and never attended school. His last name was often misspelled Lombardo and he used the first name Frank for many years.
He passed away in 1962 [9] at the age of 75. [10][11]
