John Charles Lomberg (1888-1917) death appears to be suicide. “Indicated death due to asphyxiation wilfuly drowning … by the deceased John … linked to driving a taxi off the East Pier into the sea while under the influence of liquor”. He was aged 39, of Mixed race, married and occupation chauffeur, and resided at New Church Street. 1

Also died in the same taxi, Winifred Ethel Lomberg (1892-1917) of 66 New Church St, mixed race, single, a dressmaker. Name looks like John Rynhard??. 1

A tombstone in Maitland has a John Lomberg (b 8 Mar 184?, d Feb 1895) married to Rosa Sophia Lomberg (d 17 Dec 1923 aged 81). Also another death, name illegible, at age 28 at Alfred Docks, apparently dated 1917?. ^[3][4][5]
