Living in Birmingham in 1871[1], in Gloucester in 1881[2], and in Bettws-y-coed in 1891 and 1901[3], where he was Director of a slate quarry. His father had been a shop-keeper in Gloucestser and later a dealer in slate in Bettws.
Last seen in Liverpool, 28 Apr 1906, just a few weeks after the birth of his youngest son, Reginald. A notice was posted in the New Zealand Police Gazette (and similar in Tasmania), giving a very detailed description of him and his clothes, and asking for information on his whereabouts or death.[4]
