William Long was born on August 10, 1790. He married Mary Ann Welch on September 30, 1811, in Surry, North Carolina. They had twelve children during their marriage. He died on November 12, 1873, having lived a long life of 83 years.
The 1870 census shows William living with his daughter Martha Melinda (Long) Gidney and her children soon after the death of her husband, Frederick Gidney (1810-1869). They lived near George Welch and family.
