Biography

John H. Long was born in England abt 1843, son of Edward Long and Martha Betridge who, with their children, migrated to Bloomingdale, DuPage, Illinois, USA by 11 Oct 1850. [1] By November of 1850 the family was living in Aurora, Kane, Illinois and there were enumerated again for the 1850 census, on 14 Nov 1850. In the household were: Edward B Long 43, Martha Long 31, Henry Long 12, Richard Long 10, John Long 8, Fredrick W Long 6, Arthur Long 4, Loren Long 2, H A Watkins 23, A Egbert 28. [2]

In 1860, the family was still in Aurora, Kane, Illinois except father Edward Long has apparently died, and mother Martha is now head of house, has married a new husband, Edward Parsons, and has had 2 more children. Members of the household were: Martha Parsons 38 b. ENG, Edward Parsons 42 b. VA, Henry Long 21 b. ENG, Richard Long 19 b. ENG, John Long 17, b. ENG, Fred Long 15 b. ENG, Author Long 13 b. ENG, Susan Long 11 b. ENG, Martin Long 8 b. IL, Edgar Long 9/12 b. IL. [3]

On 14 Jan 1868 John H at 25, married Emma J. Westover in Kane County, Illinois. [4]

In 1870 John Long (27) and wife Emma Long (24) were still living in Aurora, Kane, IL [5]

By 1880 John and Emma had had 3 children and were recorded in the census at Aurora as: John Long 37, Emma Long 34, George Long 9 Harry Long 6 Mera Long 1, Ida Westover 24. [6]

They were still In Aurora in 1900. [7]

By the 1910 census, wife Emma had passed away (1907) and John lived on in Aurora Ward 6, Kane, Illinois. His daughter is now married, and she with her husband are living with her father: John H Long 66, Perry Denison 31, Myrta I Denison 31. [8]

John H. Long died on 4 Nov 1910 (aged 67) in Aurora, Kane County, Illinois, USA and was buried at Spring Lake Cemetery, Aurora, Kane County, Illinois, USA. [9]
