Biography

Sophia Long was born in Pennsylvania on February 6, 1833. She was the daughter of John 'Peter' Long and Catherine Rufe.

In 1850 she was working as a domestic in the household of an elderly woman in Durham, Bucks, Pennsylvania.[1]

Sophia married David Bachman Fulmer about 1852. They had eleven children, nine of whom survived infancy - Emma Jane, Mary Catherine, Amanda, Gibson, Anna, Jacob Lawrence, Jennie, Frank, and Clara B.[2]

IIn 1860 and 1870, David and Sophia and their children were living in Williams, Northampton, Pennsylvania, where David worked as a butcher in 1860 and a laborer in 1870.[3][4] In 1880, the family resided in Easton, Northampton, Pennsylvania, where his occupation was teamster.[5] In 1895 and 1900 the couple was living with their youngest daughter Clara in Phillipsburg, Warren, New Jersey.[6][2]

David died in October 1900. In 1910, Sophia was living with her daughter Clara Steckel and family in Easton, Northampton, Pennsylvania.[7]

Sophia reached 77 years of age and died in Easton, Northampton, Pennsylvania, on June 16, 1910.[8][9] She was buried at Phillipsburg Cemetery in Phillipsburg, Warren, New Jersey.[10]
