John was a sapper and his regiment was the 2nd Tunnelling Company.
He suffered from gas poisoning in 1917 and was admitted to
the Colchester General Military Hospital in England on 20 Apr 1917.
John was discharged from the Army on 12 May 1918 as medically unfit.
John died on 9 Jan 1948 in Launceston, Tasmania.

Mrs. Robert Grimes and Mrs. Vincent, aged 64 years.

FUNERAL
Mr. J. J. Long
There was a large gathering of relatives and friends at the funeral of
Mr, John James Long at the Carr Villa Crematorium., Canon M. J. May,
of Holy Trinity, Church, conducted the service.
The returned soldiers' service was read by R. G. Cartledge.
The Campbell Town R.A.O.B. Lodge was represented by Mr. E.Dick.
Chief mourners were Mrs. A.Long (wife), Messrs. Harold and Reg. J. Long (sons),
Mesdames J,R. Vincent (daughter) and V. Cobllins (sister).
Pall bearers were Messrs. R. Coogan, R. Lanham,
H.Cole, H. Kelb (members of R.A.O.B. lodges).
Casket bearers were Messrs, A. W. R. Davenport, A. D. Gowans, J. Willett,
J, Thorne, C. J. Cormley, G. A. Wallace (R.S.L.).
Among the many floral tributes were those from R.A.O.B.
and G.A.B. Launceston Lodges,
Totally and Permanently Incapacitated Soldiers' Association: line inspector
and line staff, P.M.G Department, Launceston; president, committee and
members Launceston sub-branch, R.S.L.members R.A.O.B. Lodge,
Campbell Town; comrades at Commercial Hotel, Launceston.

Johns' wife Amelia died on 7 Jan 1961 and they are both in the
Carr Villa Memorial Park, Launceston.
