Emily was born in 1844 in Hanborough, Oxfordshire.[1] She was the daughter of Benjamin Long and Mary Whitley. Her baptism took place at St Peter and St Paul, Hanborough on 28th January 1844.[2] Her father stated on the register that he was a labourer and that the family were living in Hanborough.
