Biography

According to family Bible records, Joseph Long was born 23 July 1770 and died 6 Jan 1837. He married Catherine Foster 5 Dec 1793 in Wythe Co., Virginia. Deed records find him there until 1799 when he sold his land there, buying more land in Russell Co., Virginia in the early 1800’s. Joseph and Catherine apparently moved to Bedford Co., Tennessee about 1804. The reported birthplaces of their children show that move. Catherine died in 1811 and Joseph was married a second time in 1813 to Agnes Lane Kimsey. Many of Joseph and Catherine Long’s children left Tennessee for Alabama but there is no indication that Joseph did. His eldest son, William F. Long, left many records in Tennessee and probably died there in Bedford County. We assume that Joseph also died and was buried in Bedford County, Tennessee, but no record has been found proving that fact. The children of Joseph Long and Catherine Foster were: William F. Long 1794-1841 Henry Long 1796-1867 Anna Long 1798-1865 Mary Long 1800-1874 Catherine Long 1803-1873 Margaret Long 1805- aft 1860 John Long 1807- aft 1860 Joseph Long, Jr. 1807-1838 James W. Long 1809-1849[1]

Joseph was born in 1770. He passed away in 1867.

However, there are no known yDNA or mtDNA test-takers in his direct paternal or maternal line. It is likely that these autosomal DNA test-takers will share some percentage of DNA with Joseph:
