James Long III was a North Carolina colonist.

James III was the son of James II and Elizabeth (Hawkins) Long

He married Ann Ames, daughter of Joshua and Nancy (Ames) Ames, in 1700 at Tyrrell, NC - parents of Silas, Joshua, James R., John, Giles, Elizabeth and Andrew Long

Mr. JAMES LONG was appointed a Vestry for St. Paul's Parish, Chowan Precinct in 1701.[1]

The abstracted will of JAMES LONG of Chowan County shows:

September 1, 1731. April Court, 1734. Sons: JAMES, GILES, JOSHUA, JOHN, ANDREW (to each of these sons is devised land). Daughter: ELIZABETH LONG. Executor: GILES LONG (son). Witnesses: RICHARD LEARY, THOMAS LEARY, CORNELIUS LEARY. Clerk of the Court MOSELEY VAIL[2]

"James (3) son of James (2) and Elizabeth Long, was of Chowan, Tyrrell county, North Carolina, and died there September 1, 1734. His will, which was probated at the April term of court in the following year, mentions eldest son James, second son Giles; brothers Thomas, John and Andrew; son Joshua and daughter Elizabeth."

Research Notes

An incorrect spouse is listed see Warning: Check the data. A parent (Long-2540 born 1688) should not have been born more than 170 years before one of their children died (Long-2553 died 1 Feb 1864) . This would mean that even if the parent gave birth at 70, the child lived to be over 100. A parent's death date (Long-2540 died 1 Sep 1734) should not be more than 120 years before one of their children died (Long-2553 died 1 Feb 1864) . This would mean the child lived to be over 120. A death date (Long-2540 died 1 Sep 1734) should not be before a spouse's birth date (Litton-175 born 21 Apr 1792) .

15 June 2020, A comment has been posted on Mary Ann Litton to remove as spouse.
