James Long II was a Virginia colonist.

Biography

According to import information JAMES LONG was born 1632 in Yawpim, Albemarle, Virginia. James II was the son of James and Alice (Wilson) Long.

From The Colonial Records of North Carolina, it was found JAMES LONG resided in Albemarle County in Carolina in 1680 and Chowan Precinct in 1701. JAMES LONG Senr., and J A. LONG Junr. were among the petitioners of the inhabitants of Albemarle County in Carolina to the King 30 June 1680.[1] Mr. JAMES LONG was appointed a Vestry for St. Paul's Parish, Chowan Precinct in 1701.[2]

JAMES LONG was enumerated on the tax collection record for 1675 thru 1678 in Albemarle County, as well as the 1695/96, 1697, 1698/99 tax record.[3]

The abstract will for JAMES LONG of Chowan County shows:

November 15, 1711. July 29, 1712. Sons: JAMES, THOMAS ("the brick house plantation"), JOHN ("my plantation at Moratock"). Daughters: Mary and ELIZABETH. Wife and Executrix: Elizabeth. Witnesses: JAMES HAWKINS, THOMAS HOOPPER, LEONARD LEFTIN. Court held at the house of Capt. THOMAS LEES in Chowan County. Clerk of the Court: J. PALIN.[4]

"James (2), son of James (1) Long, died in Tyrrell county, North Carolina, November 15, 1711. From his will we learn that the Christian name of his wife was Elizabeth, and that he had sons James, Thomas and John, and daughters Mary and Elizabeth. He was a man of prominence in the administrative affairs of the colony, and a member of the House of Burgesses."[5] [It should be noted Tyrrell County was not formed until 1729 from Chowan, Bertie, Currituck, and Pasquotank.]

I'm puzzled. Did James (born in 1632) not start having children until he was in his 50s? Could we be missing a James between him and James III (b.1688) ?
