Richard Long was born in Virginia in 1758, son of Benjamin Long and Mary Bond. Richard Long fought in the American War of Revolution.

His military record is in Hessie Hayden Mobley's application to D.A.R. Agnes (Dickson) Long had 3 children by her former husband James Dickson: Mary Moore Dickson Long, William Williamson Dickson and Bennett Smith Dickson. Mary Dickson Long married Richard's son Benjamin Alexander Long. [1]

He passed away in 1848. [2]
