Henry Samuel Long was born on 18th May 1832 in Chelsea, Middlesex. He was the son of Henry and Catherine Elizabeth. He was baptised at St Luke's, Chelsea on 15th April 1832[1]. His father stated on the register that he was a shoe-maker and that the family were living in Little Camera Street at the time. Both Henry's birth and baptism dates were recorded.
Henry Samuel Long and Sarah Sayers were married after banns at St Luke's, Chelsea, Middlesex on 23rd October 1854[2]. They were bachelor and spinster and both of full age. Henry was a boot and shoemaker living in Collingwood Street and the son of Henry Long who was a shoemaker. Sarah was living in Camera Street and the daughter of Stephen Sayers who was a farmer. They each signed their own name on the register and the witnesses to the marriage were John Rickards and Sophia Eliza Long[3].
They migrated to Victoria (Australia) before 1858, settling in Wallan Wallan, 50 kilometres (32 miles) north of Melbourne's Central Business District.
Aged 56 years, he passed away in 1887 in Carlton North, Victoria. [4]
