Long were brought here to-day. He died Wednesday, August 29, at Bluehill[sic], Nebraska, age eighty-seven years. Mr. Long was born in Ripley county, Indiana, July 14, 1813. He spent most of his life in Iowa, moving to Nebraska in 1885. Five children survive him, two of whom H.D. and S.I. Long, his sons, accompanied the remains. The funeral services will be held at the pleasant Grove church to-morrow at 10 a.m. Rev. B.M. Boydston will conduct the services. He will be laid to rest beside his wife in the Pleasant Grove cemetery.Burlington [Iowa} Hawk-Eye, September 4, 1900, p. 3, New London column September 3: The remains of Samuel Long, which were brought from Blue Hill, Nebraska, were laid to rest Sunday in the Pleasant Grove cemetery. He was eighty-six years[sic] of age and lived for many years north of New London. Four sons were present at the funeral: Simpson and Henry of Blue Hill, Nebraska; Clay, of Mount Pleasant, and John, of Winfield. While in town Sunday they were guests for a few hours of Mr. and Mrs. Eli Bradford.
