Biography

Stephen Long is Notable.

Stephen was was a U.S. army explorer, topographical engineer, and railway engineer. [1] Longs Peak, one of the most prominent mountains in Colorado, is named for Stephen Long.

He was born in 1784 in New Hampshire.[2][3]

Stephen Long was appointed second lieutenant in the US Army Engineers December 12, 1814. He became a major in the Topographical Engineers July 7, 1838, and was promoted to Colonel September 9, 1861. He transferred to the Engineers March 4, 1863, and retired June 1, 1863. He passed away in 1864. [4]
