Biography

1776 Project
Private Benjamin Long Jr. served with Caswell County Regiment, North Carolina Militia during the American Revolution.
Daughters of the American Revolution
Benjamin Long Jr. is a DAR Patriot Ancestor, A071242.

Benjamin Long, Jr was born in North Carolina on 8 Oct 1759, son of Benjamin Long Mary Bond. He married in 1780 between two tours of duty in the Revolutionary war. He received a share of his father's land on Storey's Creek when he married.

Benjamin took part in what became known as "The memorable battle of Gen. Gates defeat". He wrote in his pension application: "Though most of the militia never fired a gun, we fired two rounds before we ran" -- uncommon courage for a company of draftees facing Lord Cornwallis' well-ordered British regulars advancing from all sides.

DNA Connections
It may be possible to confirm family relationships with Benjamin by comparing test results with other carriers of his Y-chromosome or his mother's mitochondrial DNA. However, there are no known yDNA or mtDNA test-takers in his direct paternal or maternal line. It is likely that these autosomal DNA test-takers will share some percentage of DNA with Benjamin:

When John Long from Caswell Co. was drafted a second time, his father hired Benjamin Long to replace him. See Revolutionary War Pension Application at https://www.wikitree.com/photo/pdf/Long-27403

I added the info from DAR for your Benjamin as well as the links for that and the 1776 project. I have ordered records from DAR before, and sometimes they are very informative and sometimes not, but they are very reasonable ...like $10 and they download immediately too. This record only shows one child, JOHN married to EUNICE LEA DONOHO ROSE so I don't know if it will help, but the more info you have the better the odds you will find something.

The template can be copied and just change out the DAR # and rank for your other Revolutionary profiles. ALso view under FIND and then PROJECTS which will give you additional info. Might try SAR too, but they are going through Ancestry.com for their records so I couldn't.  :(
