William James LONG, son of William LONG and Charlotte Montague HEANEY, was born in 1843 in the Colony of Van Diemen's Land, he died on 10 July 1938 at Ocean Street, Coffs Harbour, New South Wales, Australia.

Mr. William James Long. The death occurred at Coff's Harbor on Sunday afternoon of Mr. William James Long, at the age of 98 years. The late Mr. Long was father of Mrs. Harry Pollett, of Coff's Harbor, and his death occurred at the home of his grandson, Mr. William Pollett, of Ocean-St. Deceased was a native of Tasmania and came to New South Wales at the age of 12 years. His first home was at Brisbane Waters, now known as Gosford, where he became interested in the timber industry. He later followed the industry at Heron's Creek, Coopernook and Wauchope After retiring from active life, he paid flying visits to Coff's Harbor where he became well known. During the last seven months he took up permanent residence here. The late Mr. Long was a member of a family noted for longevity. One brother, Mr. George Long, of Beechwood, who is 88 years of age, came to Coff's Harbor to attend the funeral. Four sons and four daughters survive, the sons being John, of Sydney (71 years), James, of Heron's Creek (69), Nataniel, of Moree (55); and Abraham, of Coopernook (50). The daughters are Mesdames H. Pollett (Coff's Harbor), Montgomery (Mittagong), Stace (Kew) and Anthony (Coopernook). Two daughters are deceased. Fifty-three grandchildren and a large number of greatgrandchildren and great-great-grandchildren also survive him. The funeral took place at the Roman Catholic portion of the Coff's Harbor cemetery on Monday, the Rev. Father Smith conducting the service at the graveside.— Coff's Harbor 'Advocate' |
