Biography

John, son of the Swiss immigrant Daniel who settled at Mingo, is reported by descendants to have been born c.1708.[1]

In 1735 he purchased 250 acres of land at Black Rock on the River Schuylkill. [1]

He married Susanna [1] and was the father of :

  1. Daniel b.c.1735 [1]

His will was made on 19 May 1745 and probated in Philadelphia on 20 July the same year. The will was witnessed by Jacob Morey, Christian Morey and David Längenacker, and appointed his father, Daniel, and John Bookwalter as executors. He was survived by his wife Susanna, and his son Daniel, and three young women (Elizabeth, Catharine and Sarah) who may have been either daughters or grand-daughters [1] (see Research Notes).

Research Notes

The Longacre history refers on p.86 to "three daughters of his said son", i.e. Elizabeth (wife of Nicholas Cressman), Catharine (wife of Jacob Bechtel) and Sarah (wife of John Cocehnour). On the same page reference is made to "Daniel ... and his three sisters". Further research is needed to determine whether Elizabeth, Catharine and Sarah were daughters of John or of Daniel.

DNA Connections
It may be possible to confirm family relationships with John by comparing test results with other carriers of his Y-chromosome or his mother's mitochondrial DNA. However, there are no known yDNA or mtDNA test-takers in his direct paternal or maternal line. It is likely that these autosomal DNA test-takers will share some percentage of DNA with John:
