Biography

Norma Jean Nelson, 78, of McGrath, Minn., died Friday, May 19, 2006, at Fairview Southdale Hospital in Edina, Minn.

Funeral services were held May 25 at Calvary Presbyterian Cemetery in McGrath, with Pastor Ron Hunt officiating. Burial was at Pliny Cemetery in McGrath.

Norma Jean was born February 27, 1928, at St. Lawrence, S.D., to Clyde and Nancy (Jeffris) Loomis. The family moved to McGrath in 1937, where she graduated from high school in 1946.

She worked at Dad's Corner. In 1948 she married Robert Nelson. Norma Jean worked to keep the farm going while Robert trucked and worked in the woods. They raised a large garden and would share what it produced.

Norma Jean would help others throughout the community by visiting, bringing food or staying with them in a time of need.

Norma Jean and Robert retired in the 1980s and enjoyed their time by fishing, camping, buying and collecting John Deere tractors, and visiting with their children and grandchildren.

Norma Jean is survived by her husband, Robert; daughters Roberta (Gene) Vivant, Nancy (John) Langenbach, Denise (Mike) Krebs and Diane (Todd) Langenbach; son Richard (Kathy) Nelson; sisters, Ruth Rezabek, Clorene Resel, Mary (Ralph) Thomsen, Marge Kuhlman, Joyce (Stanley) Zielinski and Joanne (Chuck) DeSmet; a brother, Jimmy (Diane) Loomis; 15 grandchildren and nine great-grandchildren; and nieces, nephews and other relatives and friends.
