Alverda Looney Hudson, 89, of Lynchburg, died Oct. 1 at The Carrington. She was the wife of the late J. Sam Hudson. Born March 19, 1918, in Craig County, she was the daughter of the late Rev. George C. Looney and Mabel Haynes Looney. She was the retired owner and operator of Mrs. Hudson's Nursery School and was a member of Madison Heights Christian Church. She is survived by her daughter, Jeffree Sue Hudson of Farmville; one brother, Leon Looney and his wife, Gladys, of Williamsburg; three grandchildren, Amber Wilkerson, Jay Wilkerson, and Michael Wenzel; a great-granddaughter and a niece, Dawn Cloyd and her husband, Bill. A funeral service was conducted Oct. 3 at Whitten Timberlake Chapel by the Rev. D. Jack Hamilton. Interment followed in Fort Hill Memorial Park.
