Biography

Jacob ‘Jake’ Lopp was born about 1770 at Abbots Creek, Rowan County, North Carolina; the son of Colonel John Lopp and Elizabeth Miller. He married Magdalena ‘Molly’ Waggoner in Rowan County in 1794. [1] His father, Colonel John Lopp, died in 1801 and left him 200 acres in Rowan County. [2] He wrote his will in Rowan County in 1822 and may have died there as late as 1866; however, no primary record of his death has surfaced. He mentioned the following six children in his will: John, Jacob, Susannah, David, Catherine and Mary. There was also an Elizabeth who died young. [3] In all probability he was buried at the Pilgrim Evangelical and Reformed Church Cemetery in Lexington, the church with which he was affiliated. [4]

alt birth dates of 10 Oct 1770, 1764, 1777
alt death dates: 20 Oct 1822 , 1840

from Will of Jacob Lopp:

"I give to my Daughter Susannah married to Adam Hedrick one-Hungred and fifty dollars --"

"I give and bequeath to my daughter Catharine Lopp one-Hungred and fifty dollars --"

Research Notes

Note: Still researching parents of Susanna Lopp. Other family trees have Jacob Lopp Sr Find A Grave: Memorial #140232846 (Birth: 1764, Rowan County, North Carolina, USA; Death: Sep 1840, Harrison County, Indiana, USA) as her father. But the associated daughter of this Jacob Lopp, Susannah Lopp Funkhouser (1794 - 1877) died Sep 1840, Harrison County, Indiana, USA (and the gravestone this Find a Grave site clearly reads "Rosanna").

Since, I have tied 2 Lopp branches (Johannes (abt.1735-1801) & John Jacob (abt 1725-abt 1792)), using information from "Lopp ancestors who came to Rowan County, North Carolina : before the Revolutionary War and their ancestors" by Mrs. Marion Lopp Cast and Mrs Marion Forbes Lopp, Belton, Missouri : M L Cast, 1987. (Cited in biography of Johannes Lopp (abt.1735-1801). With this connection, I have been able to trace a genetic match, although further research is needed to verify the parents of Jacob (FamilySearch has 3 possible parents) [5] My close family and I have unusually strong DNA matches with at least 3 distant cousins who are Lopp descendants. -- Kent Creamer

I took responsibility for the abandoned profile Catharine (Lopp) Wagner (1803-1881) at the same time as I also took on the profiles of what was listed as Catherine's parents, Jacob Lopp (abt 1767-abt 1866) and Magdalena (Waggoner) Lopp (1778-abt 1840), (my direct ancestors). Due to compelling evidence presented by John Smith, as well as reviewing "evidence" claiming to support these relationships, I came to the conclusion that the wrong Catherine had been listed as their daughter. In fact, wedding records for both husbands list David Waggoner's wife (as well as Tussey's) as Waggoner, not Lopp. This profile, previously id as Lopp-6 will be changed to maiden name Waggoner,Catharine (Waggoner) Wagner (1803-1881), (parents unknown), until better evidence is presented. I have replaced this Catherine with Catherine (Lopp) Lanning (abt 1805-1862) as the daughter of Jacob and Magdelena Lopp. -- Kent Creamer

DNA Connections
It may be possible to confirm family relationships with Jacob by comparing test results with other carriers of his Y-chromosome or his mother's mitochondrial DNA. However, there are no known yDNA or mtDNA test-takers in his direct paternal or maternal line. It is likely that these autosomal DNA test-takers will share some percentage of DNA with Jacob:

IMHO evidence points to Catherine Lopp-179, who married Thomas Lanning-1093, as the daughter of Jacob Lopp-3 and Magdalena Waggoner-1328; rather than Catherine Lopp-6 who married David Wagner-946 and Gersham Tussey-7. It is unlikely Jacob and Magdalena named two daughters Catherine.

Ok, you've presented a strong case. And after looking over the "evidence" for the previously stated relations, I find the following problems:

First, it would mean that Catherine married her maternal uncle.

Second, there is no real evidence yet found that Catherine's last name was even Lopp.

So, I wil change the current relations to those you have suggested, and remove the last name of David Waggoner's wife. If anyone has any objections to either of these changes, please let me know.

For your DNA confirmation statements: Because the matching test takers are all more distantly related than third cousin, you will need to use triangulation. See this part of the DNA confirmation instructions:

https://www.wikitree.com/wiki/Help:DNA_Confirmation#Are_you_third_cousins_or_closer.3F

I've changed the 'confirmed with DNA' entry to 'confident'. Please add the appropriate documentation before changing it back to 'confirmed with DNA'. Thanks!
